The new series “Dritte Option” is a confession of a fictitious third-gender individual, who seeks to look at the prejudices of society with ease and irony. Alex’s identity is basically a struggle for his/her own personality profile between two traditional genders (Barbara vs. Radim). That is why Alex is predestined to have an unclear gender identity. Alex transforms his/her feelings into digital collages, which have a lot in common with our own feelings of otherness. They result out of our own experiences as novices in a foreign country.

It is important to add that the project is not a criticism of German society. However after six years, it is still not possible to unequivocally evaluate the experience of living in another country.

“Am heutigen Donnerstag, 13. 12. 2018, hat der Bundestag eine Reform des Personenstandsgesetzes beschlossen, die eine dritte Option beim Geschlechtseintrag einführt. Das Bundesverfassungsgericht hatte am 10. 10. 2017 festgestellt, dass die aktuelle Regelegung verfassungswidrig ist und dem Gesetzgeber eine Frist bis Ende 2018 gesetzt, eine entsprechende Gesetzesreform zu verabschieden.”
